MPs rejected the plea for free school meals to be given during holidays.

Should be very good news for all the Answerbanks who think poor families spend too much on smoking, gambling, etc, so should get NO more handouts!

Let them eat cake! Or nothing.

Charles Dickens would not believe it.

Mozz - if I've completely missed the point here, I'll withdraw, lick my wounds, and blame it on the fact I'm starting to get 'refreshed' having had a couple of beers after work.

How is this going to be paid for?
The original idea was to see if the government would fund it, as we know, they voted against it, like good Tories.

Now local councils are stepping up, along with hundreds of restaurants, cafes etc who are volunteering their survices to provide free meals for kids.

I think there was a gofundme (or similar) page for the campaign, but no one is putting pressure on anyone to contribute. It's just there if you want to.
Understood - thanks.

deskdiary. I do wonder if English is your first language, as I’m still trying to unravel this paragraph of yours and where ‘irony’ fits in.

“I wouldn't that stop you - with absolutely no sense of irony you've already called one contributor a prat and managed to get away with it.”

Or do you put away more alcohol than is wise?

Let’s see.

Perhaps I can help, Allen. He left one word out - as in 'I wouldn't *let* that stop you' - but you knew that.
Chrost, isn't it a bit early for you two to start banging heads or do you wake up ready for war?
Call me old fashioned, Mozz, but I don't like to see people on the receiving end of bile from a serial offender - whatever time of day it might be.
If the government decided to fund the scheme, finding the money would be no problem. Take it out of the overseas aid budget and let charity begin where it ought to - at home.

Couldn't agree more. I'm all for helping those in need, but not to the detriment of our own needy.

Maybe you should, using your words to me from a few days ago, "mind your own business"? DD is an intelligent fella, I'm sure he can respond in kind when he wakes up.
//Who's asked you to contribute? No one on here has mentioned donating anything.//

Ah, it's all becoming clearer.
It's a parody account. You've done it brilliantly, by the way, mozz. I only just 'got it'.
Spicerack.

"Councils in Liverpool, Greater Manchester, Rotherham, Doncaster and Birmingham are among some to have pledged support, along with those of several London boroughs including Redbridge, Hammersmith and Southwark."

Lol.
Mozz, that wasn't your business - which is why I told you to mind your own. I'll decide who I speak to - not you - and I certainly don't need you or anyone else to tell me whether or not I should respond to trolls.

“ he can respond in kind when he wakes up.”

Comes round more like.

Do I mean to make naomi cross?
Blimey this is getting a bit hot under the collar. Couldn't we just all agree that there are some people who think it's a good idea and some who dont. Luckily (!) Its not us who gets to decide what taxpayers money is spent on. You cant please all of the people all of the time
//I'll decide who I speak to - not you - and I certainly don't need you or anyone else to tell me whether or not I should respond to trolls.//

Yes dear, just as I'll decide what is my business on a public forum without help from the likes of you.

“I wouldn't that stop you - with absolutely no sense of irony you've already called one contributor a prat and managed to get away with it.”

Looks suspiciously like a sentence to me.

Oh gawd 'the likes of you' rears it's ugly head again!!!
