Is there any difference between «in the night» and «at night»?

In that example, I think 'in the night' sounds better.

Not really there is no such a big difference.
Thanks and have a nice day.
These days I always seem to get up in the night to visit the bathroom ;-)

Like most languages sometimes you just have to get used to, and develop an instinct for, what would normally be used.
To me, "at night" means something happening more than once or on a regular basis during the night and 'in the night" means something happens only once or very infrequently during the night.

"I often hear Owls hooting at night." is different from, "I heard an owl hooting in the night." because the first one often happens and in the second, I am talking about a specific incident.
