i want to purchase an item that retrieves things from shelves, long pole with mechanism at the end, to reach those hard to get goods. Any idea what i am on about, the sort of thing hardware stores used to have to get at those hard to reach goods on top of a shelf.

thanks for any and all suggestions..
I just use a pair of meat tongs to reach tins of tomatoes, etc., from the high shelves, or for transferring hot potatoes from the microwave to the oven. I find them indispensable.
