This is what Waitrose sent me today as part of my order.

This, allegedly, is ginger.

Technically, it is ginger, but if you were doing your own shopping, you'd certainly skip over this sorry little item and look for a proper lump!

Do they not ask you what weight? Tesco do. I buy lots and freeze it.
you rich socialists types, shopping at Waitrose!
How much did you order ? How was it shown on the website?
Maybe packed by someone who doesn't like it.
Mine is sprouting as I write.
Tesco sell it by approx weight, unfortunately not everyone notices the drop down box to change the amount and some are getting enough to freeze for a lifetime.
If you don't change the weight they will send the smallest amount.
Mamy...I sent OH to get some from the Asian shop. He didn't know you could snap off what you wanted. It's lasted me for years!

Just checked the weight business. Their picture is of a sturdy, fat bit of ginger, allegedly 100g.

But next week I'll try for 250g (thanks, I now see where I can change it), and see what I get.

Waitrose have real people going round doing the shopping (unlike Ocado, where it's all robots) and you'd have thought any self-respecting 'shopper' would have rooted around for a better bit!

(Yes Tora3, champagne socialists here. Or we would be if we weren't teetotal...)

One might have thought that shopping at a company owned by the employees was about as socialist as one would be likely to find in big business.
I asked for a big lump of ginger and this is what I got

How much did that cost you, jno?
Sorry, don't find these gingerist comments at all funny.....
he said "I don't want your money"
One should hope they didn't cut back with the caviar portion .. that really would be unbearable!

Yes Fitz (re. shopping at capitalist enterprises). Not that we try and live up to our principles in that way - we’ll join in boycotts etc., but good luck to anyone who manages to live without supporting the ‘wrong’ firms.

We run with the hares and hunt with the hounds, I’m afraid, and ease our consciences by giving money to ‘good’ causes.
