from any photo...very hard...from that photo, impossible
impossible to determine the authenticity of a photograph
a: Hold it to skin at upper lip; if cold its agate if warm its plastic.

b: breathe on it. If agate moisture quickly dissipates; moisture remained longer on plastic.
One of my hobbies is Geology and I have many hundreds of crystals and stones. Your item looks like a piece of glass. The only other thing it may be is Smoky Quartz which is not a valuable stone. I don't think its authentic because of the lighter coloured diagonal band through the middle of the pendant. Even if it was a form of Quartz you are looking at a very low value -maybe £10 as a pendant.

Tambo its's nothing like Agate which is an opaque stone. The pendant is a clear quartz or glass.
Hans I've reported your post -there really is no need for that.
// all stones are agates//

yes Tambo all agate stones are agate.........next!

This may help a beginner decipher the different types of rocks and crystals

This photo has been posted here before. The OP was trying to find the name of the jewellery company it had come from as she had lost the actual necklace...iirc.
judging by flash on upper left, it might be polished ameythist
I had a look for the box and the pattern appears to be one used by various folk/businesses.

I then searched for the "SP" and it's the same design as that used by Wella for their System Professional hair products.

Could it have been provided by them at some point as a promotional gift? Might be the logo is just a coincidence mind.

Doesn't help you identify what the gift is made from but it looks like a bit coloured glass to me.

the photo looks like an amethyst pendant. Have you done the a & b test above ?
I think it is a moulded plastic made to resemble an Ametrine stone(that is where you have amethyst and citrine in the same bands of the mineral)
the centre band is too even to be a genuine stone
The way it is mounted on string is a clue. Doubt if a valuable stone would be hung like that.
