i see starbucks are running an ad campaign about "every name tells a story" ive seen a couple , one where the boy is transgender and is happy he's "allowed" to use his name and one with the (?) actress. Great.
But it really really annoys me that SB even ask for a name. I was in there once and they asked for my name when i was the only person int he shop. I asked them why and they said it "was policy" but does it annoy anyone else or just me?
> They obviously think it works better than asking for a table number...
You're not sat at a table for a take-out. They could write the order but it may well be the same as the next person's (cappucino) so it doesn't say who comes first. A name is probably a fair means of identifying an order, even though it smacks of false sincerity ...
A name doesn't say who came first, any more than a table number... they aren't just used for takeouts, a lot of cafes use them, so they know which order is where.
They do it so that they don't get the orders mixed up. Pretty silly when there's only one customer.... but rules is rules ... and Jobsworths is Jobsworths. Hate those High Street coffee shops. They can keep their giant buckets of mud.
Even if you're the only one in the shop when you place your order, a second customer may come in and place an order for something quicker than your order.
