Miyazaki is an aviation fanatic, as he showed with The Wind Rises. It always amazes me that those movies we're all hand drawn. The backgrounds are always so beautiful.
forgot about some of the 50s classics, the day the earth stood still, brilliant later murdered by theat Keanu Reeves Shilo Pitt! Then or course the incredible shrinking man! another classic.

There's another 50s b-movie called The Day The Earth Caught Fire, which is fantastic. Got a young Leo McKearn in it iirc.

The film I would love has not been made yet, but it will be based on the books, ''The Chronicles Of Thomas Covenant.''
There is a series called 'Away' on Netflix at the moment. Not sure if it can be classed as sci fi but it was quite good.

if time travel is science fiction, then Bill and Ted are most excellent.
Avatar the 3d version, absolutely visually stunning, fantastic story. Avatar 2 has just finished filming...brilliant!
I'm not sold on the 3D version, Dagman, I saw it in Imax and I found only parts of each shot were in focus, and I had to swivel my head trying to watch it all evening. Gave me quite a headache, though it would probably have been okay on a regular sized screen
