A Pardon For Ed Snowden?
One of the more bizarre stories in recent weeks has been this one: Trump is apparently seriously considering a pardon for Edward Snowden, the whistleblower that was such a big story seven years ago.

I'm not sure what has prompted Trump to consider this, nor why he has changed his mind so dramatically about a person he repeatedly called "traitor", demanded should "face justice", and made it pretty clear that, in his mind, justice would mean execution. All of that was some years ago.
Still, although it is puzzling what's prompted this shift, the question really is: Should Snowden be pardoned, or not?

As Tomus correctly points out it is more likely to loose him votes rather than gain any so I think that puts paid to that idea. Still nice one for the liberal lefties on here while it lasated!
As to the question of pardoning Snowden lest look at what Trump actually said: (Reuters)
“there are a lot of people that think that he is not being treated fairly” by U.S. law enforcement.
“I’m going to start looking at it,” Trump told reporters about a possible pardon, speaking at a news conference at his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club.
So he is only saying he will look at it.
Interestingly Trump has identified that people on both sides of the political divide (Reuters) : Trump said on Saturday he thinks Americans on both the political left and the right are divided on Snowden.
“It seems to be a split decision,” Trump told reporters. “Many people think he should be somehow treated differently. And other people think he did very bad things.”
So it will be interesting to see how this plays out. My take on it is that they (The USA Agencies) want him back on US soil and to to that they may well be willing to make concessions.
The big problem is that however you look at it Snowden did break the law, and a pretty serious one to boot. It really comes down to justice being seen to be done, whether or not many years in exile in Russia will be seen as enough remains to be seen.

no betrayal - there is a legal point that if a govt says "the price of cabbages in the market place is secret" - then it is. Even tho people might say - "erm if you go down to the market...."
