Have just download this on to my smartphone (Sony Xperia), and it seems to be working fine, downloaded it onto my husband’s Samsung galaxy phone (bought in March), and got the one that only works for the Isle of Wight. We uninstalled it and then re installed it, but still got the Isle of Wight version. Any help would be much appreciated, please...

You need the NHS Track and trace app.
try uninstalling, turning off the phone turn back on and re install. Is he reinstalling from the correct link? Could it be being reinstalled from his phone back up and not from the app store? I believe that the link to the old app was removed.
Its TEST and trace
Links to the downloads here.

???
indeed ?????
Twilight zone.
There is a very good piece written up in this link regarding phone system requirements. Rule of thumb appears to be Android phones from 2016 onwards and iPhone 7 or later. Whatever your compatible phone is it will not operate unless you have Bluetooth enabled. About 80% of the UK population should be able to download the App. There is a very good guide on how to download and use the app at the bottom of the script.

Earlier phones may well cope if the user has done the operating system upgrades as they were offered.
You don’t need iOS 14 to run it even.
In fact iOS 13.5 runs on the iPhone SE, so if it is advising iPhone 7 or later then there must be other technical reasons it doesn’t specify.
I was amused by this:

“Other recent headlines suggest that the new app has a 1% false positive rate which could lead to 600,000 people isolating for no reason.
But while there is that risk, the short answer is that you should download and use the app”
It

So that’s alright then.
Actually I’m pretty sure the 1% / 600,000 needlessly self isolating was a leading statistician’s damning assessment of “Moonshot”, not this app.

Thanks everyone, will double check the app he has been downloading. Appreciate the advice, cheers, chox.
After eating I have installed the app on my Android mobile. Took 2 minutes and is all up and looking functional. My phone's os is 6.0.1. I am now in the process of trying to get it to load on "She who must be obeyed"s phone. Despite getting rid of all the unused apps to free up space as advised by the app it is not loading very well despite installing easily enough. The os is 5.1.1 so I feel that it is therefor a no no. Couple of points for anyone who does look in. If you are running an iPhone you can only install the app From Apple Store. If you are running an Android you can only install it using Google Play.
Then just a thought from me. I note that the app when activated and running has a "Venue check in" feature. This interests me. We were away in Criccaeth for the weekend a few days ago and everywhere we went to buy a drink of food or to use facilities required us to give personal details that varied from name and mobile no. to name and postcode or car reg. Now.... this new app logs you in anonymously at "venues" and does so without the faff of writing it down in a little bookie wookie for everyone to see. I like that already. Not only that what if venues countrywide make having this app a condition of entry....or the Government makes it a condition of entry? This app looks like it could(big could) be what we were all demanding at the beginning of the restrictions. It can work if(big if) the NHS breaks the mould and can do something properly.
Like Chokkie's husband, I found that the NHS Covid-19 app I got was the trial one for use in the Isle of Wight and Newham only. (My phone runs Android 6.0). I deleted it and reinstalled but I still had the same problem.

However deleting the app, cold-booting my phone and then reinstalling seems to have sorted things out for me. (i.e. I've now got the England-wide app on my phone).
