Stan and Hilda had some great lines e.g when he asked her what her lipstick tasted of and she replied, 'Woman, Stanley, woman!'

give me Brookside - no other soap would compare. The scriptwriters were great and the actors were too. No wooden performances there
Jack and Vera.
Question Author
For totally woodentops it has to be Crossroads JJ, even the scenery moved back in the day :0)))
Question Author
Danny, they were a great double act
Violet Carson as Ena Sharples was an incredible character,so well written and portrayed and far more complex than she first appeared.
Yes Blanche was great. I always liked Fred Elliot I say! I say!
Cell Block H ran Crossroads very close on shaky scenery. Even the metal bars looked as if they were made of rubber.
Question Author
Margo it's when you see the old episodes that you see what's missing now, like with Fred and the hapless Ashley
Despite the fact he was the 'Enemy' - a bookmaker - i always found an interest in the storylines for Des Barnes.
Philip Middlemiss himself [Des Barnes] has certainly continued to live an 'interesting' life

Loved Des, he was a Jack the lad but I liked him a lot
Bobbie - talking about Crossroads brought back memories of the wonderful Victoria Wood in Acorn Antiques.
Most missed Deirdre and her crying! Always good for a laugh.

And Stan and Hilda Ogden take a lot of beating. Real characters and great acting.
My favourite character now is Tim. As an actor he beats everybody.
Question Author
wooden ones has to be Andy in Emmerdale, he couldn't act to save his life (good dancer though )
Deidre's neck muscles went into overdrive a lot
I adore Tim, too. I used to love Ray Langton played by Neville Buswell
Question Author
yes I like Tim, a very good actor, he and Abi are an item off screen
Question Author
oh Yes, Ray Langton, a proper 70s icon
I agree with jj, Brookside was my favourite soap too. Was devastated when it finished! Could never understand why everybody liked Blanche, I couldn't stand her - acid tongued old bat that she was! I used to love Jack and Vera, doubt there'll ever be anyone like those two again. Loved the scene when Jack died and Vera came back for him and they danced. My favourite characters now are Tim and Sally.
Question Author
that scene when he died made me cry, same as when Stan died and Hilda held those broken specs in her hands and give way to tears, that was so emotional as well
