Royfromaus,
Or maybe much the same.
Depending on which countries you compare it with.
South American countries are now in the gold medal position.

Check out the column 'deaths per 100,000' it gives a realistic comparison, however I imagine some countries are not showing properly counted figures.
Deaths per million, sorry!
Also worth noting that worldometers' figures often run ahead of more official counts, like Johns Hopkins etc., although the official counts don't differ by that much.
Looking at our figures, I cannot see a spike.
APRIL 2020 -
Covid tests 20,000 per day.
Positive cases 5,000 per day
= 25%
SEPTEMBER 2020 -
Covid tests 230,000 per day
Positive cases 4,000 per day
= 1.7%
Figures from the .gov website.
Am I missing something?
where is the 'spike' ??
We probably have fewer cases overall now than in April. But Maybe you should compare to what was happening in August in order to see the clear increase.
These comparisons are pointless. Most countries are defining what constitutes a Covid death in a different way, and even the ones that agree on the definition are lying about it.

The fact that San Marino is at the top of Bookbinder's Wikipedia list shows how stupid it is.
Not pointless, but requiring care. There's no escaping the conclusion, for example, that the UK is among the worst-hit countries in the world, even if it's not necessarily clear where we rank exactly.
Yes, I guess there's no escaping the conclusion that San Marino's suffering terribly and China's doing very well.
SHARONA, if you look at the second graph on the page here,

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/uk/

you'll see that the daily numbers are going up and are in the thousands, having been in the hundreds a few month ago.

That's the second spike.
San Marino is obviously an exceptional case, and I clearly wouldn't trust the data out of China, but that still doesn't undermine the fact that the UK has been hit worse than most.

For starters we'll agree to rule those two out then. Now let's work down the rest of the list...
Except that isn't really the point. I said earlier that the UK is "among the worst-hit" -- what matters for that is merely the rough order of magnitude. Bearing in mind, too, that the UK's own total on the source we are using is probably an under-count, it's not like we could assume other countries are the only ones whose figures need adjusting conveniently upwards.

There's no reason for controversy here. With the exception of countries who are obviously lying (China, Iran, Russia, North Korea), the UK is in the group of worst-hit countries -- a group that includes Spain, Italy, Sweden, and France in Europe; the USA and Mexico; and several South American countries, of which Peru and Brazil are the most notable. Whereabouts in that block the UK ranks specifically I don't know, as it's sensitive to questions of how the data were gathered; but that the UK is in this group is undeniable.
