If a footballer deliberately kicked the ball out of play even in a break of play they would be penalised. No different, he should know better and as someone above said be a role model to upcoming players.

Ken, there are legal and illegal ways to tackle, as there are legal and illegal ways to hit a tennis ball. Experienced professionals in either sport should know them. As noted, both of them have been in trouble with them before.
