Rapt - to be absorbed,enchanted - therefore absent to all else around you.

I can't come up with anything better and I can see rapt means spellbound which could mean absent in mind but it didn't seem like a primary synonym to me. I'd have used a word like enthralled or spellbound or engrossed rather than absent in the clue if I was the setter. But I'll accept it's the popular choice so is almost certainly right
