I have a santander e mortgage (do all transactions online via internet banking). Its one of those ones that have a savings account attached so the savings decrease the mortgage loan, and you only get charged interest on mortgage minus however much you have in the savings pot.
I transferred some money from my linked santander accoubnt to the savings account. However, they talk about it taking X working days. Does that mean it needs human action to do it? if not, why cant it be done instantly like faster payments?

yes and no of course
there may not be human involvement and Santander just built in three days grace so they cd use the money to get interest without paying interest ( to you)

[for my own part I cdnt get one of these offsets to work - I paid in a LOT and said to them - "right I am only paying interest on £40k now?" and I got a typical AB answer of "Foo! no! why you fink dat? - you pay for whole 240 you do. Foo hahahaha! forty only come on sucker!"
I paid off the mortgage. yes step forward RBS)
