Does anyone knows if people generally apply varnish on top of woodstain like Ronseal 10 years product?

You can by all means, just make sure its not an oil base product that's been used on the door.

90% of the wood staining I've done for customers is finished off with a couple of coats of clear varnish. Just a handful of my customers prefer the matt finish of the wood stain.
