This word, 'PAREIDOLIA' and definition is on my little motto calendar today. Without googling would you know what it means?

yeah it has come in recently in the context of figures in the sky and moon
and seeing faces
It is derived from the Greek meaning seeing things differently.
I recognised the word but couldn't recall the meaning & also see things in clouds, carpets, etc.
I can remember studying the faces in the floral carpet of my bedroom floor as a child. They were rather like friends keeping me company.
I suppose this also explains those who see Jesus in toast slices, or clouds.
I'd also assume we can all find faces if we make a point of looking for them.
Mamya, re your friendly polar bear; Andy Capp kept me company, as I slept at nights, from being a 12 year old schoolboy until I became a 16.5 year old soldier. A water mark on the ceiling (which kept coming back no matter how many times dad painted it) was the image of the head and shoulders of the cartoon character - complete with fag in mouth :-)
Wasn't there a quite famous photograph of the Twin Towers, on 9/11, showing the supposed image of Bin Laden in the rising smoke?
Pleasant memories.
I have a map of Australia, my father law in a baseball cap , and three other faces in the rough plastered ceiling above our bed
