Train Derailment In Aberdeenshire

Looks like a pretty serious incident hampered by the lack of access to the location for the Emergency Services. Obviously there have been serious injuries. Lets hope no fatalities.

As much as we grieve for the dead and pray for the recovery of the injured I still seem to view these incidents from a professional standpoint. Alas the dead no longer need assistance and can wait. I immediately considered the survivors. Old habits and a certain amount of detachment kicks in still when we learn of these tragic incidents.

I think you're right, retro. I think some idea of how the psyche of the UK has changed in recent years can be gained from the Scottish FM's statement:

All well and good and nothing less that you'd expect. But in the past there would also be determination to establish what caused the accident and also a little mention of how a major artery between two of Scotland's larger conurbations will be restored.

The bereaved families don't need condolences from senior politicians. They are almost certain to get them from people who know them and who understand how the tragedy will affect them.

more so from the commentators on the evening news who were, having expressed the public sentiments, promptly fell over themselves looking scapegoats for this sad incident, looking to play the blame game for it. this modern UK "psyche" could well see transport administrations shamed into suspending their services at the slightest hint of potential trouble.

There is a growing lack of acceptance that sometimes "stuff happens". The greatest manifestation of this is with Covid. Everybody must be protected from it. "If my kid gets it from school I'll sue them". So with the railways. This looks to be a tragic accident when people were trying their best in difficult circumstances. But somebody must take the blame.
