I want to touch and change my iPad from 2 or 3 feet (operating the camera’s focussing and lock) to take pics of a wound on my leg stump.

I can’t reach it with my fingers without moving my ‘pose’.

Any ideas for a touch sensitive extension thingy?

Can you use a mirror? Prop a mirror against something and then focus the ipad on the reflection of your leg.

Might not be the same for your iPad, but when I go into the settings for my iPod touch, there is a timer setting that can delay the photo for up to ten seconds.

Maybe the iPad has a similar set-up?

Yes, the timer is fine - it’s the spot focus that’s the real problem. You tap the point you want to be focussed, hold it for 5 seconds, then it’s LOCKED so the next pic you take is focus-locked on that point.
Maybe the solution is a friend who can take the picture for you.
As for iPads, sorry, never had one so wouldn't know.

Mirror might work. Mrs A has just suggested using her iPad Stylus, so I’ll have a go.
Question Author
Yippee. Stylus attached to a long pencil works!

Thanks for the interest.

I take it that the screen reacts to a tiny electric charge from your finger, which is why a long bit of wood wouldn’t work.
Bought an IPad and sold it within the month. Can't help you with the tech side of it. Would using a mirror placed on the floor to reflect the image do it. Take the picture and then zoom in on the image to see the detail.

Why did you sell your iPad, Alava?

I find them very useful.
Have always had Android tablets.. I thought I would give an IPad a go, I just struggled with it and seen no benefit. My Samsung tab s was a lot quicker to use with a larger screen, therefore I stuck with Android.

Point taken, Alava. I've been sort of stuck in a Mac groove since the mid-80s, and I'm slowly breaking out of it.

I have with phones - no stupidly priced iPhone for me, I've also gone Samsung - and it's fine. Also, when I bought a Mac Mini (no screen) I bought a Dell monitor, which again is superb.

So maybe the next tablet will not be an iPad - hard to break the habit, but they are getting to be a silly price.
Am I missing something? Could your wife not take the photo?
Question Author
Both disabled, and a bit wobbly. Plus Mrs A isn’t always around when I’m stripping my leg dressings. But yes, she does take the pics sometimes.
Sorry about that, allen, hope you get sorted.

No bother, unsureme. We cope! (The iPad solution turns out to be a pucker iPad stylus, taped to a long pole - works a treat).

bhg. Apologies for ignoring your Mirror Idea earlier on. Just got round to trying it, and it works fine!

Thanks.
