Thanks for the tip off Mamya. Some people never miss a chance to rip others off.
Talking of scams, I had a strange new one this morning. It purported to come from a local number (although when later redialled it was not recognised). The lady asked me about the colour of my washing machine!! When I said I didn't have one as we have a communal laundry the line went dead, so I'll never know what that was all about.

Yes LB, this is a gift to scammers - knowing there's a change in the offing.

That is a weird one Jack, I had a guy try to convince me to insure my 25 year old washing machine not long ago.
Probably Keith Vaz's wife JD just checking 'jim' had delivered as said!
you should have said just a white one for the whites and a rainbow one for the rest, jd
How the colour of my washing machine paves the way for a scam I'll never know.
@ Jackdaw... " You did say white sir; good because that is what I have on record. and it's a Hoover is it sir........ It's Not.....Sorry, I can see now sir as you've mentioned it's a Hotpoint and it's outside of its warranty....Well we can re-insure it at a very reasonable amount........etc, etc, etc... all we need is the number on your Debit/credit card."

My apologies Mamyalynne for appearing to have given you the bird by replying to jackdaw before you. :-) Your clickable link was one with excellent advice for all on AB who are over 75years of age.

Thanks, Hans. I now see where they were coming from.

Not a problem Hans, I simply thought it useful at a time when folk are awaiting communication on their next step with this.

If in doubt, contact them direct.
Another useful tip for scams in general is that if you are invited to click on a link in an email or press 1 on your phone, then DON'T. If you press 1 you immediately start paying for the call, not the caller, at a very expensive premium rate.
//If you press 1 you immediately start paying for the call, not the caller, at a very expensive premium rate.//

A widely believed, but totally false urban myth.
Thanks v much Mamya - I have forwarded it on to others.
198kHz...^^^ I don't agree with what you have said about pressing one being.... "a false urban myth".
