Guess who drove a jeep near the End, Sam Kydd. He was also on the ship as Scott left for the Antartic, the film. He is usually seen stoking boilers on ships, loading guns or whatever.

Great actor, always in the background but must have had a good career.

Here's a list of Sam Kydd's film appearances. He was always busy, but he didn't get a credit for his appearance in "A Town Like Alice." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_Kydd#Film_career

He was.
Sam seems to have been one of those actors who were never the star, but were always in demand.
I loved the book, read it ages ago, should probably see the film.
Oh I missed that. If I'd known it was on I would have recorded it. What channel?
Sam Kydd starred in kid’s show “Orlando” which ran for several seasons in the 1960s and was itself a spin-off from an adult show.
Love all Nevil Shute books and think A Town Called Alice was one of his best. The film was true to the book which was a plus.
