IS it too easy to get an abortion?

An investigation into claims that some doctors are granting women illegal abortions based on the sex of their unborn baby has been launched by the Department of Health.

It has been sparked by an undercover newspaper (Telegraph) study into sex-selection abortions, secretly filming doctors at British clinics agreeing to terminate foetuses because they were either male or female.

The doctors were also allegedly recorded admitting they were prepared to falsify paperwork to arrange the illegal abortions.

I cannot see any mention of the NHS but even so should these doctors be allowed to continue practicing or should they be struck off.

My opionion is that this is a step too far. Call me old fashioned but if a parent is willing to abort just due to the sex then I dont thing that person would be a fit person whatever. They should therefore be steralised.

If we are not careful next step is designer babies.

maybe people who believe in thier right to killing a baby (pregnancy) because its an inconvenience can extend their beliefs into their old age- when they become a nuisance or a huge committment 'abort' their lives too.

A friend of mine taught in a school that 90% Asian. The ratio of boys to girls in the Asian community was about 65 to 35. It is a well known fact that girl babies were done away with or aborted.....

@evianbaby -no it was a joke - woman who kill their unborn babies because they could'nt keep thier legs crossed should be sterilised (thats not a joke). maybe if you had to dispose of an fully formed late term surgical abortion as part of your job description and realise a little life had been taken away to suit someones convenience you may think the same.

I dont think abortions are too easy to get. Aborting a foetus on the basis of its gender is wrong and unethical and is illegal, and if the evidence is proven reliable then these Doctors should be prosecuted ,and if found guilty, struck off.

Ankou, I think you are being obstuse, however for now I'll humour you. By inconevience I mean that pregnancy may have occurred at a time when the woman hadn't really planned to have a baby so plans may be thrown out. eg Just about to start last year of University and wallop! Up the duff! QED inconvenient. I would not murder an un born child for this sort of thing but it seems many do. That's what I mean by inconvenient.

Of course the woman always has the choice all I'm saying is that in my opinion inconvenience is not a valid reason for abortion. You cannot prevent abortion by law it just goes underground but that does not mean we all cannot have our views on it.

i think that it is probably NOT too easy to obtain or experience an abortion for any reason, including foetal abnormality, and there are apparently lengthy delays for an NHS one!!

if people will not love and care for a daughter, maybe that is as good a reason as any!

maybe more (consensual) adoptions should be promoted, and mother any baby homes should come back??

No matter what the rule states, I still find abortion as a sin.. Sexually active couple who are not married should be responsible and be careful not to get pregnant so they won't need to abort an innocent child.
