A few weeks back I sowed an area of the garden with a "seed mix of cottage garden flowers".
Its been interesting watching the different flowers unfold over the weeks but there's one I just cant put my finger on.
its deep red about 2' high, flower many petals, about the diameter of a £2 coin. vanes in leaves prominent and in pairs along the stem and fused together at the base. probably an annual.

Sorry no photo, T I A..

Thanks for replies, not oxalis. I have cornflowers in blue, white and pink, similar but completely different leaves.

After a bit more searching I finally found it, they are zinnias.
