I just cannot get on with the face masks I've bought. They make my face feel really hot and I feel I can't breathe. A neighbour has suggested I buy a face shield like these from ebay, but do you still have to wear a mask as well? Have any of you bought one? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-X-Full-Face-Covering-Visor-Mask-Shield-Protection-Reusable-Splash-Guard-Safety/133407459882?hash=item1f0fb44a2a:g:Gb0AAOSwKUdfACz5

I wear a face shield + ppe apron etc & clients wear masks & ppe gowns - all good till clippers cut mask elastic or tints leave elastic lines, all hidden by finish....lol
I feel we’re all going to have to get used to wearing them to be honest. No one likes wearing them but needs must, we can get used to anything if we really need to.
I’ve found the pale blue disposable ones are far less claustrophobic than any others. I’ve only worn one once, and that was to get my hair cut on Saturday morning.

Vagus it's weird how some people are ok with them while others are not. I'm wondering if it's psychological? A friend of mine who can hardly breath at the best of times doesn't have a problem with them, but I am dreading having to wear one again.
Barsel, I am fairly sure that in your case it is....the good news is that its easier to overcome a psychological issue than it is a physical one....not that its easy but its easier
As we breathe in oxygen & out CO2 (carbon monoxide) that could cause lung problems? Whats the known efficacy?

woofgang I have a week before I go for a scan at the hospital and I'm dreading I will have to wear it as soon as I step in through the doors, down the corridors sitting in a waiting room, lying flat on the scanner ( I can't even imagine that!) and obviously walking out again. I'm worried I might just cry and show myself up.
tamborine...CO2 is carbon DIOXIDE....the clue is the "2"!
Barsel, I can understand your dread = what I'd recommend is every day until your appointment wear a mask around the house for a while, control your breathing and stay as calm as you can.

Each day try if you can to go a little longer.

As regards getting upset at the Hospital, that won't be showing yourself up and the staff will understand and hopefully comfort and calm you.
If you phone the diagnostic imaging department at the hospital, and explain your concerns, they'll probably tell you that you can be exempted from the usual requirement to wear a face covering.

Thanks Mamya that's a good idea, I will try that. Chris thanks for that advice.
I do not have one, I just keep a good distance from people.
Barrel what kind of mask have you tried? I have improvised one using a scarf and found it much easier to cope with than the 'papery' ones.
Sorry "Barsel" flippin' predictive text!!
Thanx ginge I knew it was wrong asa I pressed enter. Is breathing in CO2 harmful to lungs?
^^not really bad for the lungs....but it gets into the bloodstream and can cause more widespread problems, if inhaled to excess.
Excessive inhalation of CO2 causes Hypercapnia.

However, wearing a face mask is safe.
