L-i k, Thank you for that.Would it be okay to install another browser and then uninstall chrome.Which browser would you recommend? I used to have Firefox.
Question Author
Thanks again
i've been impressed with edge browser after using it for a few weeks

Try deleting the Chrome Browser cache and History.
If that fails uninstall chrome, and then install it again.
do you lose bookmarks when you do that, Gromit?
Question Author
All sorted now.I have installed Firefox.
You can import your Chrome data to F'fox if you want to -

Deleting cache and history should retain your bookmarks which is why I said try that first. Uninstalling will lose tabs and bookmarks.
That was discussed on page 1.
thanks, Gromit.

One thing that I don't really understand is that I am running Avast Secure which as far as I can tell is actually running Chrome but I can get all the websites. If I uninstall Google Chrome will I lose Avast Secure?
They should be 2 distinct browsers, Avast Secure Browser is (I believe) part of a larger Avast suite that I guess is your chosen security option?

I can't see how uninstalling Chrome would affect Avast. Mind you, I've never seen Avast, so am quite happy with you waiting for someone that does know it & any peculiarities it might have.
Question Author
L-i k.It's just that when I clicked on the Avast secure browser everything was there as it was in Google Chrome.
Question Author
Just taken the plunge and uninstalled Google Chrome.Avast Secure is still there. Thanks again for all the help.
Sorry Danny, went for lunch - so you're happy with your set-up for now? If you didn't create a Google account before removing Chrome, as you've (I think) successfully moved your bookmarks etc to F'fox, should you now decide to reinstall Chrome, you can import from F'fox into Chrome.
