It can be the case, I often think that something I threw out a while ago would be the ideal solution for a current use.

Yes. I kept a strangely shaped wooden thing for ages not knowing what it was. Eventually I chucked it out, then when I came to buying new curtains realised it was the end of the curtain rail.
