a new political party launched yesterday with an organised "theft" from a store in Camden
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jun/25/uk-extinction-rebellion-activists-launch-beyond-politics-party-by-stealing-food

in all the reports of this, there's no indication that either the store, or the authorities, did anything to stop them, nor that they intend any follow-up.

Is theft justified in the face of need? or does the need itself mean that helping yourself to food is no longer theft?

"Are we to define poverty in this country by comparing it with Indian peasants for example?"

You raised poverty so up to you to define how you see it. I simply said it is relative - which it is.

No one looks down on people having a helping hand when down on their luck (Apart from Capita workers maybe). That is simply perceived.
Poverty, my aris! Go to Africa, that's poverty. Here we define poverty as not having a 60 inch plasma and an Iphone X!
sorry that's not at you YMB just a general statement on "poverty"

Did any poor people actually benefit from this group's actions, or was it a publicity stunt by a group of entitled lefties making a political statement?
Dr, A bunch of hooligans stealing food.
TTT...you really need to stop with the 60 inch TV's nonsense.

Poverty is real and it's happening to people in work, not just lazy layabouts.

There is no excuse for stealing though. Maybe the human rights laws need a little tweaking. Arrest them and put them all in a holding cell. I'm sure the real nut cases would scare the life out of them.
Theland I have never seen anyone on here being hostile towards those who genuinely need food banks or get into rent and mortgage arrears. Any hostility is directed at those who have never done sweet FA in trying to find work or bring babies into the world when they can't support them - and why should they, they know there are countless soft hearts, mugs and benefits to see them through. It's those habitual scroungers that get on people's goat, not the unfortunate who find themselves in a situation not of their own doing - which can happen to anyone.

One of the few good things to come out of this terrible pandemic is the focus on low-paid "essential" workers, in insecure jobs with disgraceful working conditions. Will the "new normal" remedy this or will they return to poverty and insecurity?
Low paid essential workers?
Aren't they just happy with a clap and praise from MP's?
No definition?
