Paapa Essiedu played Hamlet in 2016.
They can repeat Carmen for 3y & keep me happy.
What happened to, '' all men are equal?''
Equal opportunities?
Level playing field?
Now we have to bend over backwards to placate a minority.
That is wrong.
The sad thing is that diversity even needs to be worked towards - we live in a diverse country with many races, lots of talented people with disabilities etc.

The diversity should be evident already.
Still in progress, theland.
//Don't be surprised, Theland, the BBC has just shown the RSC's Hamlet with a black actor in the title role//

So what? White actors have been playing Othello for centuries.
BA should go to Mamya @22:59.
//The diversity should be evident already. //

I think it is - but that said, I don't understand why this new initiative would cost anything.
let's imagine a victorian drama, a street with people walking to and fro
and it's totally diverse, asians blacks whites...in real life that would not have happened, but it's just pretend and not real, so it's not a snapshot of what life was really like back then, but it will be politically correct, you could make a drama in say tower hamlets set in today.
that would be authentic as it diverse.
Fender, //in real life that would not have happened//

Quite right. If they made a drama set in the area now known as Tower Hamlets 50 years ago most of the characters should be Jewish. Now they should be Asian.
And the medaevil dramas?
The round table with Sir Percival, Sir Cuthbert and who plays the black knight?
//The round table with Sir Percival, Sir Cuthbert and who plays the black knight?//

No different than little baby Jesus being whiter than white.
No Mozz, it shouldn't and won't be my reply.
Mozz - Authenticity gets my vote.
Otherwise, Zulu would have had hordes of crazy white Welshmen etc beating their shields, and attacking the Chinese troops at Rourke's Drift.
london is diverse, not sure about the rest of the country.
but there going to make programs that really suite londons diversity
and not the rest of the uk, seems like virtue signaling, not many bame where i live..perhaps in my nearest city, but i dont really remember seeing that many there either..maybe there's enclaves, what a word
enclaves.. almost like a department store section.
//Just imagine how much more income they would get if every one who wanted to watch their programmes were made to pay.//

Haha......Errrr. Sarc.
