I have that on video and I also recorded the series from the TV so I can watch as much or as little as I want.Who could ever forget Mr Darcy emerging form the lake? Corrrr.
Oh, is it on as a 5-parter?

I agree this is the only version. I didn't care for Keira Knightley and Matthew McFayden's diluted performances in the film version.

And yes, Benjamin Whitrow and Alison Steadman were perfectly cast as Mr and Mrs Bennett.

I watched it on Netflix x

one of my favourite parts is mr Collins at the ball, other way mr Collins lol
I can't tell you how many times I've watched this now. At least 40 and never get bored ;o)

(I have the same little problem with Keeping Up Appearances - never tire of that either!)
My favourite narrative:

MR BENNET: It is fortunate for you, Mr Collins, that you possess such an extraordinary talent for flattering with delicacy. May I ask whether these pleasing attentions proceed from the impulse of the moment, or are they the result of previous study?

MR COLLINS: They arise chiefly from what is passing at the time, sir. I do, sometimes, amuse myself by writing down and arranging such little compliments as may be adapted to ordinary occasions. But I try to give them as unstudied an air as possible.

MR BENNET: Excellent. Excellent.

:-)

lol yes x
Many years ago the Daily Mail gave away free dvds in cardboard sleeves and this was one of them. I take it away every year to watch in the evening on my laptop. Gets watched at least 4 times a year. I also have the series recorded on both the upstairs and downstairs boxes so can watch it anytime.
I hadn’t seen it since it was first aired and wasn’t sure whether to watch it again, but wasn’t disappointed. It was brilliant, and Mr Collins - well! Never understood why there was such a fuss about the wet shirt though!
Question Author
it was more about who was in the wet shirt lol
One of my favourites to watch over and over again. I just love it.
Definitely the best Pride & Prejudice ever made. Colin Firth made a brilliant Darcey and as for Alison Steadman - what an actress!
I'm a heathen because I love the Keira Knightly version and watch it repeatedly, I didn't find the Elizabeth actress nor Colin Firth at all engaging in the TV series - but I know I am in the minority by a long chalk.
You have a very small garden madam has become a household phrase in my home (I know it wasn't in the book!!)
Oh God I hated the Keira Knightley one. The same with the Hollywood version of Woman in Black, the British TV version was far, far superior and I can watch that again and again. Probably the scariest thing I've ever seen.
Prudie, I love both versions. And the music score in the film version is beautiful - I bought the CD :o)
I was going to add tigger that the score is just beautiful. I bought the book of sheet music for the piano although I haven't got on that well, it's really hard :-)
The Colin Firth one was definitely the best.
Alison steadman even has to bear people taking her off to her face
" oh really Mr Bennett, you vex me so! and I have five daughters to find husbands for ...."
