Sad news indeed, he had so many great roles.

RIP Sir Ian.
Ahh no! RIP Sir Ian

He will always be Bilbo Baggins to me. He is now in Valinor :o(
RIP Sir Ian
Sad news, one of my favourites. Fly high Sir Ian
I always remember him in The Borrowers on TV.
They are all quietly slipping away from us. RIP Ian Holm. Great as the coach in Chariots of Fire and chillingly scary as the android in Alien. Versatile actor indeed and not one for telling us how to live our lives and making political mischief. Did you know that his full name was Ian Holm Cuthbert? Now that is a full on English of a name.
I know I often say this but I have genuinely never, ever heard of him.

I've just looked him up on IMDb and I understand why. Not only have I not heard of him, but, apart from The Madness of King George (which I have seen but I've no idea what part Sir Ian played) I haven't heard of much that he has been in either. I've heard of "Little Red Riding Hood" and "Alice Through the Looking Glass" but stories, not films. I've heard of "Lord of the Rings" (I read about three pages of the book - puerile drivel) and Chariots of Fire but that's about it.
Ian played the role of Francis Willis - George III's physician.
Did he play a murderer on the run in some film or was it on television ?
