Sounds like a touch of anthropomorphism creeping in here - whether you mean peace from the noise or water movement. Whichever I'd say no, the filter is vitally important for maintaining water quality. The fish in your tank will not have lived naturally in silent still pools :-)
It is a power filter and the flow is set on minimum. A spray bar would be a good idea and have been in touch with Interpet to see if they do one. The fish find it difficult to swim naturally and don't look happy with it always on. Liven up a lot when turned off though.
Thanks iluvmarjie that filter has now been removed and will only put it back if I can find a spray bar for it. My other filter in the tank doesn't have a ventura system so doesn't inject bubbles but filters ok.
