Hi folks, I have some mice or rats nesting under our decking. They are difficult to locate but hear them in various areas. Last year we had them and I done away with our bird feeder as that was their food source. I did also trap 3 mice and one rat. Their presence stopped but they are back. Is there anything that actually works to repel them? There are cats around but they don't deter them. We have motion detector repellant gadgets, useless! Poisoning would result in dead ones under decking. Any suggestions would be appreciated, some kind of plants or chemical they hate for instance? Cheers.

I think the best answer would be, is remove the decking.
For rats etc its like a 4 star hotel.

1.Collect cat faeces to fill rat holes or under your decking.
2. They dont like hot chillies.
3. Python is best

Testing.
Personally I would contact my local Council's pest control department. Neighbour had a nest under his shed but they soon got rid of it.

I am having trouble posting questions and answers with an error message unable to post questions or answers. I have tried on my pad, mobile and desktop. Have I been hijacked or something? I set a question in the home and garden section titled Vermin, now unable to respond to the answers nor reset another question. Sometimes the answer button does nothing. Could anyone kindly check this out? Many thanks.

Scrub that, its obviously working now... Gremlins!
You can get a poison from any half-decent hardware shop that the rodents digest and it hits their kidneys - essentially they have to run to water and then they die, so unless you have a pond under or near your decking, they will be well away.

Oh, at last I can say thanks to all posters, I'm checking out the plant ideas and meanwhile traps set at the ready. Cheers all.

I guess I'm not keen on poison as they may go under decking and die, not a good smell I imagine.
that's the idea of the poison I have suggested - get them out and away to water so they die near that and away from your garden
