A friend of mine paid 30000 for a cleaning franchise. Since coronavirus been unable to work. Since restrictions lifted slightly doesn't feel confident going back to work . Not been doing job 12 months doesn't qualify for furlough. How would he recuperate the 30000 he paid out. Any suggestions please

Hang on and then hope to sell it for something fairly close to £30000 in maybe September? I doubt he can claim anything back from the person who sold it to him unless it was in the Tc and Cs

he cant
he signed a contract
and the fact that the performance was frustrated if it is not covered by terms in the contract then he bears the loss and no one else
When did he buy it? Was he paying himself a wage through PAYE before March this year?
Unless the seller acted in a fraudulent way he hasn't got a right to claim the money back.

That's what I thought. Citizens advice wouldn't be able to help him.he lives with his partner she is worried he is going to infect her.thanks for replies
I would have thought this could be a good time for being a cleaner- more frequent and deeper cleaning will be needed by bars, hotels etc.
What does a cleaning franchise look like- did it include a list of existing clients/contracts or was it just a set of buckets and cloths& brushes?

It's an oven cleaning firm fictionfactory. His female partner doesn't want him to go back.
His partner is being unreasonable. Oven cleaning does not involve close contact with people. It should be done wearing gloves and a mask.
I had my oven cleaned just yesterday. I had absolutely no contact with the person (who was wearing a mask anyway)
Did he have any Business Interruption / Loss of Income Insurance ?
I am still not sure how this franchise works- what did he actually buy? Is he under a contractual obligation to provide a service to specific clients?
Same as any other franchise, FF. He bought the right to trade under the business name, use the logo, company training, right to use the products, exclusive territory, free advertising, lease of sign written van, equipment etc.
