Just to let you know I've just received what looks like a very genuine email telling me I need to renew my TV licence.Fortunately I knew it must be wrong because I only re- mewed it a few months ago. I hovered over the name of the sender and it said TV Licensing so I was confused by this as usually it will give a strange email address but it looked absolutely genuine, so I phoned them to ask why were they sending me a reminder and I was asked to check if the License number was the same as mine, and of course it wasn't. So just a heads up for those of you that receive your reminder is to check that the licence number on your reminder is the same as the one on your licence.

oops kust done one and didnt check ....

for olds - the age for free licences is still 75
but the rules change in Aug 20 - just soon
and so they are doing shortish licences
because someone over 75 may become INELIGIBLE ( 1 Au 20) because he is over 75 but NOT on pension credit
the net is full of bbc licencing scams ive had them but mine is done automatically by direct debit be careful so many have fallen for this specially older people
I had similar with an alleged bank transaction, when I rang my bank I was told they ‘mirror ‘ documents a phone numbers very cleverly, but I do wonder how they got your legitimate email address Barsel
I get a TV Licensing spam email almost weekly, I too know my licence number.

That's what I said to them Bobbi but I have heard of people who work for some of the companies who get your email address and sell it on although the company probably won't admit to that.I have had emails telling me they know my password , (not TV Licencing ) but although they have the main part of it, they don't know the numbers I always put with my password. So there's another heads up, always put a number or character in your passwords.
Yes and mobile numbers, this should be an offence Barsel
I pay mine annually at the shop. No email attached to mine

It probably is Bobbi but it's finding the ones who are doing it. I asked if they have a phishing address I could forward the email too but she just said No, it's alright, we know about these scams! If they encouraged people to send them on, like my bank does, they might have a better idea of how to tackle the problem and how big the problem is.
They’re very often traced to places like the Seychelles Believe it not

ummmm a lot of companies are now trying to go paperless and i agree with it sometimes. I could also pay by direct debit, but I'm one of those people who are not keen on that, so this i why I do it on the internet. The thing it though, if you knew that your licence was about to expire, the chances are, a lot of people would pay it, but because I only recently renewed mine, I knew it must be wrong.
The emails are not from the Beeb if it don’t say repeat I always thought .
