My under counter hotpoint fridge has stopped cooling (last thing I wanted in this hot weather), this may be due to over stocking with food and drink.
The light is still coming on when the door is opened and the temperature dial appears to be reading number 5.
Any idea on a solution ?.

It sounds like the thermostat has given up. How old is the fridge? You might have to order a new one.

I think its about 10 years old, so its getting on a bit.
Do you ever hear the motor running? If the motor runs and the fridge doesn't get cold it could be that the coolant has leaked out.
Have you tried turning the temperature dial slowly from one extreme to the other and back again? You should hear a click as the thermostat cuts in and out to start/stop the motor. Lack of that could imply a faulty thermostat which shouldn't be expensive to repair.
Try cleaning the radiator on the back if it has one, they get covered in dust and fluff and can't cool the gas any more.
