9d. Lavish topi? See VIP kitted out with this possibly (5)
I have SOLAH, a tree pith comes from.
LAVISH TOPI could be an anagram of VIP SOLAH IT, but I can't see how the IT fits.

The only thing I can see is that 'this possibly' refers to SOLAH (it)

Thanks for the reply, Geevo. I was assuming "this" = SOLAH, but that doesn't explain the extra letters.
I was thinking it was a subtractive anagram - VIP kitted out with IT from VIP SOLAH IT.

A longshot
I wonder if TI (as opposed to IT) stands for a "Titular See", a dead diocese!
"See VIP" or in this case TI VIP is removed.
I cannot find it as an abbreviation though!
^^ I don't have a Chambers so don't know!
I think that it was originally intended to be a composite anagram &lit, with 'it' rather than 'this', but the 'it' would then be doing double duty as both a direct part of the anagram fodder and a representation of the solution. The 'this' now represents the solution, but the IT has gone missing. Something like this might just about work:

Lavish topi? Ordered VIP this along with it, possibly

Thanks for all replies, and some clarification, Spoffy.
If the clue had read "VIP kitted out with it", it could work as Geevo says, but if "this" has to become "it", that would be a partial indirect anagram, which seems to be a no-no.
JJ, I too wondered about "see" as it seems superfluous in the clue.
If it is an error, it's a rare one in this crossword.
