Enamel Paint - Oops

I had a brainstorm and painted my worn looking outside garden bench. The wooden slats were ok but I used enamel paint I found in garage on the metal legs and sides. Now more than 24 hours later and when I lifted one of the armrests a very faint colour was left on my hand. So, maybe this wasn't so smart an idea. Should I leave it, paint over it with "hammerite" or find a varnish to cover enamel paint. I was so pleased with myself, what is the saying, "pride comes before...."

I'd wait a while longer Carol, it may just be the temperature stopping the paint from setting completely, especially if you've slapped it on a bit.

Asked hubby & he says it should dry within 4 days. Please don't take this as gospel!!! :-)

We once laid a cork tiled floor in the kitchen, sealed it with some sealant and went away for a weekend. It still hadn’t dried when we got back. Had to take the whole lot up and start again.

If it was faint colour left on your hand, rather than proper wet paint, then I think it will cure in the end, although old paint does have a tendency to remain tacky.

If it not 100% dry by the end of the weekend, then buy a sealant in aerosol form and spray it all over.
