Hi B
A month ago you sorted my problem out re non booting of my PC. All of a sudden it has started playing up again (after a month of being great !) - in your considered opinion do you think that this could be a sign of the HD starting to "pack up" ?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It's certainly a possibility. If Chkdsk finds errors, it might be time to look for a new PC (preferably with a solid state drive, to reduce the chances of similar problems in the future).

Many thanks B, had the same thoughts myself - oh well.

Looking back at your previous post .. your PC is only four years old and has a good spec. If your HD drive is failing then why not just replace the drive.
About 3 months ago I had a similar problem and bought a new solid state drive from ebay. Re-loaded Win 10 (incredibly quickly) and WOW .. without doubt this has to be the best upgrade you can do for £30. My PC now flies, it takes less than 10 seconds to boot to the welcome screen and 3 seconds to shut down !
Solid state drives are so cheap now and if you dont need 1TB storage why buy it in the first place ?
It never hurts to check the hard drive anyway.

I used to use a programme called Spinrite. Unsure of it's standing in the present day though. Bought my version years ago.

Just for info, my PC is in for treatment (new HD)and, hopefully all will be ok upon it's return.

Hi B
Just to keep you up to date I had it confirmed that the HD was on it's way out, so have had a new SSD fitted. Thanks again for your input.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure that you'll find the SSD a lot faster than your old hard drive.
