There I was thinking we'd escaped the military marches etc today. How wrong could I be? Instead of the marches we have a socially-distanced military band sounding more like the Last Night of the Proms and, to add insult to injury, that most controversial hymn "I vow to thee my country" (great music by Holst, pity about the words).

You can escape it. You don’t have to listen.

I only watched it so as to be informed - it was as bad as I expected it to be.
Why did you need to be informed? You already knew you wouldn’t like it.
I LOVE I Vow to thee My Country, great music, fabulous words. One of my fave hymns.
What do you call those who relish a bit of pain !

I didn't know that prog was going to be militarised, nor that Boris would get in on the act trying to sound Chuchillian as he read the poem. Both totally inappropriate.

Doesn't everyone moan on this site?
If it was as bad as you expected it to be, diddly, you must have known what to expect. Do you ever tire of moaning?
Why inappropriate. I thought this was VE Day. A time to remember the war coming to an end, or do you just like to take a dig at Boris
My elderly mother enjoyed it,it means a lot to those who lived through it and felt the utter relief on V E day
didn't watch :)
I don't care how Churchillian he sounds, I still wouldn't buy insurance from him.

Oh no.
diddly you put down such things as " I'm very patriotic and in no way anti-British" then spend most of the day running the forces and other things down. These were the people who gave you the right to the life that you have today. Without them you wouldn't have this.
