Will everyone get free surgical face masks, as are being handed out in Spain. Or will we have to buy the ones back we sent to China.
Or just make our own.

I think we’re being told to make our own or use a scarf.
I don't think using a scarf is very hygienic.
I would not know who to make a SURGICAL mask, I think
the government will have to cough up for them.
How many facemasks are the Spanish residents getting per person? They are disposable and not meant to be worn for hours.
My son in Spain didn’t get offered a free one, he and his partner bought theirs from a corner shop there.
I predict them becoming a fashion accessory. Have a look here. Plenty to choose from although they are not surgical, but neither do they need to be.

Poorclare, I do like your phrase "the government will have to cough up for them.":)
They'll only be free to those who can demonstrate the correct level of intensity in their stare. 'Fighter pilot in a dogfight' is the minimum level.

Normal people getting on in the world will have to pay.
Jam
Jelly
Jalapenos
Jersey potatoes
Jaffa cakes
Sorry wrong thread. Obviously.
What about ..

Jaboticaba
Jackfruit
Jalapeno
Jambalaya
Jambon Japanese Plum
Java
Nothing is free.
Its a classic case of this government not wanting to admit that wearing a mask can reduce the spread, has they've spent weeks convincing us that they won't make any difference, no u turn here until more people die. If masks don't make a difference , why is the rest of the world using them, and not having problems getting them. British manufacturing have been telling the government for weeks now that they can make, and supply basic masks, but been ignored. We now have a situation where care workers may have to stop going into peoples homes to help the elderly ,because of the shortage, AGAIN if they don't make any difference why are care workers insisting on needing them. beats me. Making basic masks are a simple sewing job, and can be turned out in there millions.
If we observe social distancing we don't need a mask. Hence preserving supplies for nurses and carers who have to be intimately close.

Once we reduce the restrictions, we will probably be asked to wear them in situations where we are unable to maintain the 2m separation .
11.32 That's just it, maydup, there are no supplies for care worker albeit very little, and that's been the case from the beginning. But British companies are still being ignored, we are not talking here of a machine/ ventilator that needs to come up to a high standard, its a simple face mask.
Do they need to be "surgical" masks?
NO not at all, just good enough stop hold up any sneeze/ cough into someone's face, and in a time when no one can be certain how this virus transmits, what's the real problem in taking all simple steps to try and avoid transmission, just don't get it.
