I made a tray bake sponge but I was hoping it would be much higher risen than it is!?

Any ideas?

It was supposed to be like the cake we used to get in school! X

any ideas? make another one an put one on top of the other? Use a smaller dish next time?

I made smaller ones they didnt rise very well either. Mabye my expecations were too high! X

When my daughter makes them they are about 2 inches deep.

If your cake failed to rise, check you put the raising agents in it. Also, check your raising agents are in date as out-of-date ones won’t have the same oomph.

It could also be a symptom of it not being cooked enough, in which case, pop it back in the oven for a few more minutes. It could also be that the tin is too big so the sponge has spread too thinly. //
And if you used SR flour, was it sitting in the cupboard for a month of Sundays beforehand?
tinks what type of flower are you using?
Did you stir the flour in carefully? Using a machine can take the air out of the mixture.
