What is your personal opinion about this hypothetical? The Beatles' 'Sgt. Pepper....' was the setting sun which the entire world mistook for the dawn.

woofgang - // and then came the Beachboys, Phil Specter et al. //

Hardly - Spector had his first hit in 1958, and the Beach Boys were formed in 1961, so the Beach Boys were contemporaries of The Beatles, and Spector preceded them by some years.
Spicerack - // The Manson Family were the setting sun. //

The 'setting son' can be attributed to any number of events around the end of the sixties - Altamont is certainly another.
OR

One can not over analyse and just listen to the music.
"and then came the Beach Boys"

Quite the reverse, actually. All four Beatles have said how much of an influence Pet Sounds was on Sgt Pepper.
I was thinking of the concept of music made in the studio that can't be replicated live.....although the King's Singers come mighty close....
woofgang - When I spoke of music that can't be replicated live, I was talking about music that was either studio-created, and lacked the technical facilities at the time to reproduce it in a live setting, or that would require more than the original musicians who recorded the music, to replicate it on stage.

There are endless numbers of bands and artists who use additional musicians and effects to reproduce their music these days, with modern technology at their disposal - I have seen Brian Wilson perform Good Vibrations a couple of times, with the aid of modern technology, and over twenty additional musicians.
ok ok.....music made in the studio that can't be replicated live AT THE TIME OF MAKING AND BY THE ORIGINAL MUSICIANS....happy now?
Yes thank you xx
