Does anyone know how they are measuring car use for the transport graph?

If not ANPR, there are traffic control cameras /counters on motorways and some roads. Maybe they have maybe 100 volunteers/students at various points doing surveys- would make a good sampling/stats project
I suspect Apple and Google are involved somewhere
They do use those for one of the graphs they sometimes show for walking and car journeys- based on routeplanner type searches

Yes, that's what I meant. Maybe Google maps as well because I wondered how many mischief makers would next day type in John O Groats or Lands End
For traffic flows on Google Maps, they use data from Android phones. Presumably they have an algorithm to disregard the boy on his bike, the milkman on his round and the passengers on a bus.

Perhaps they are just using the same information to assess the level of car use.
