Probably the wrong category but I have just received a letter calling me for jury service on 8th June. Considering that I will then be two months off my 75th birthday and therefore classed as vulnerable to Covid-19 I was surprised to say the least. What do you think are my chances of being excused?

Thank you Emeritus
I would be extremely surprised if jury trials are resumed by 8th June. You only have two months to go after that before you are no longer eligible.
NJ's advice does not apply to folk in Scotland where there is no upper age limit. Having said that, if you're seventy-one or over, you can ask to be excused.

Thank you NJ and Corby - fingers crossed. I've done it once and am not too keen to do it again.

Can I ask why not Margo?
My sister did it once and loved the experience.
I once got called but had to decline (dont know why they even bothered to call me) would have loved to have done it.
I did it once and would love to do it again. The only problem being my creaky body might suffer with the uncomfortable bench we had to sit on.

Crown Court furniture (except maybe the judges chair) isnt known for its comfort....
My other half did it three years ago and found it very boring. They got called once and spent the rest of the time waiting around. From what they said, I would think the whole thing could be made more efficient.
I personally wouldn’t like to be called for a number of reasons.
From experience, Nailit?
near to one
but you have to tell them
dont - just not turn up

altho I thought all the courts had closed.....

LOL, Partly from experience and partly from observation (while sitting on an uncomfortable seat at the back)
Thank God I am exempt. I would imagine there are many miscreants who are also thanking God. :-)
I found it quite useful
apart from the waiting around

It became obvious how the juries were much more street savvy than the judges - who of course thought they were all the wisest creatures to live on earth and er dispense wisdom and justice
