I've got a small flower bed that I'm increasing the height of - currently there are 14 bricks in a line, which is all that's needed. I'd like to cement them in place, but just how much mortar would I need for this? I've seen calculators online, but they seem more geared to building bungalows than minor gardening projects!

You can buy ready mixed mortar for very small jobs, ideal. One medium should do it.
TC's right.
One of these should do it..........

Tip it out onto a board first and knock it around with a shovel or trowel to get plenty of air into it.
(Technical term ..... "air-entrainment". Makes it nice and creamy. Much easier to use.)
You could add some plasticiser to make it a bit more pliable and take a bit longer to go of.
