Lo just means (on my thermometer anyway) that when you switch it on you’re in a room where the air temp is less than 17C, mine works fine when used to take forehead or ear temp.
Yes, if it's a clinical thermometer, it will have a very restricted range....say 35 to 40C so anything less wii come up as "LOW".

it's in my conservatory which is 26 degrees and still not working
Are you sure that you're using it correctly to assess your body temperature? It's designed to show 'Lo' (rather than any actual temperature) when it encounters a temperature of below 34C. So, unless you happen to be in a very hot environment, it will always show 'Lo' when you take it out of its box.

it's driving me mad it won't always turn on then when it does come on won't turn off for ages ,think I've got a dud
Have you actually used it on whatever part of the body it's designed for and it still says Lo? My oral one always says Lo when switched on until after you've actually put it in your mouth. 26 is still way below body temperature.
mally....read the above. It's a CLINICAL thermometer...it's not meant for other things, like rooms etc.
Aha! Crossed posts!

As Gingejbee states, it's clininical thermometer that designed to be extremely accurate within a specific limited range of 34C to 43C. It does that at the expense of not being able to display temperatures outside of that range.
Question Author
when it does work on forehead it shows normal temp 36 .
....and they do retain their readings (so you can read them)...and usually switch off automatically. Have you not read the instructions?
Question Author
I know it's clinical I got the 26 from my room thermometer not the sanitas
Question Author
yes read the instructions
...if it's reading 36C on the forehead, it's working fine. Don't expect it to read anything other than body temperatures.
Over and out.
Question Author
gingejbee thankyou for your replies but as I said it doesn't always turn on I think it's a dud which I will send back when this virus is over
