The Hudl would not charge.
A Reset was done using the on / off and volume and charging started.
It is ' frozen' during the charging with the charging symbol showing.
Reset was attempted again but does work.
Help please.

It has to be at least 5 years old, the battery will have been recharged many times and has possibly come to the end of its life. I wouldn't bother replacing the battery.
I was going to congratulate you on keeping a Hudl alive for so long. When mine died in similar circumstances I did the following although none worked. The button reset you did, a reset by sticking a pin in the little hole on the back, fiddled for ages to open it up (mainly used a kitchen knife) and took out and returned the battery, finally bought a new battery and it still never worked again. Shame as it was actually a great basic tablet.
Same with my Nexus, another great basic tablet of the same era. I had two, one died after five years or so and could not be resuscitated the other is limping along in its death throes,

I have a Kindle Fire. I've never had any problem whatsoever with it.
Good reviews for the Fire if you want a cheap replacement
The Hudl was very good, not prone to faults. The problem is Tesco stopped making and supporting them some time ago - 2 or 3 years? (haven't checked) so they are bound to have started crashing over time.
Discontinued October 2015, I found this from March 2019

"If you try to restore it to factory settings, it will not restart and is, in effect, useless"
