Corby, would you treat a teenager with multiple co-morbidities over an other wise healthy 90 year old?
For those wrestling with this thorny dilemma, you might like to read this:

There are any number of possible combinations but I was thing in general terms. In your scenario, multiple co-morbidities might increase the risk of death but not outweigh
Apc: I can see that that could be true!

how true ! how true ! - or boys and girls cd it be the usual howling AB non sequitur
( o god I have suddenly realised why people say they dont 'do'Latin then they can say - its not a 'non-sequitur' - that has taken me long enough)

Germans love obeying orders - has anyone done a language class wivvem ? I had " he is using a pluberfect and vee hafnt done that tense yet ...)

but does it follow ( or sequitur ) that there is a lower death rate

well.... depending on the criteria for admission which is reasonably - 1)got the disease, 2) needs respiratory support (*)
and is the same over Europe

then the death rate should be roughl similar in that age cohort

the italians let the virus into the old peoples homes and then ran away when they became infected

and so the proportion of those in hospital who go onto respiratory support should be the same and the death rate the same

"we will all find out in wash-up!" that was the comment of one pathologist ( cuts up dead people - word from Greek) and the Hack gasped 'what?' - so we wont be seeing her again
Posted too early.

"not outweigh the benefits if the teenager survives.

Is that one of the determining criteria, "How did you vote in the referendum?"?

It would be if left to Terry Christian and many like him.
// For those wrestling with this thorny dilemma, you might like to read this://

before I do - the parts where there isnt equipoise - ( everything is the same xc one thing) like -jive bunny dancine 19 y o against bed ridden 90 y

I would say age wins every time - and that of course means that if the facilities are ltd then it is not a queue - but you select on criteria

and so it goes from - do we select
towards how we select

the fact is that ITU as you get older - the results get pretty awful. and from the past - yo can tabulate what proportion of 90 y old come out of ITU on a good day
if the answer is none then there is very little to argue about
eclude them even if there is a bed available
Corby that was the point of my comment. All medical staff should EVER do is make their decisions on who is most likely to benefit MEDICALLY from the intervention. The teenager migh be a serial killer, the 90 yo might be a medical genius.
pass word protected
what did it say?

If you go on the FT twitter account, it’s there in full.
Doctors in Australia have asked for an ethical framework. That suggests it can not be based only on a medical need.

corbs, a quote from your link MEDICAL Need.
"Dr Skowronski, a contributor to the guidelines, welcomed their release.

"The more we can prepare the better we will do the job," he said.

He said medical professionals had been keeping an eye on what was happening internationally.

"What we're doing at this stage is looking at the best evidence we can find from the experience overseas to try to be able to predict who is likely to benefit, who is likely to survive, who is likely to get the best long-term outcomes," he said."

PP to my knowledge, I haven't met either any genii or serial killers....I know you understand the point I was making.
