My wife has forgotten her password for her toshiba laptop,
I have googled ,and phoned my youngest son for advice,
But it all seems so complicated ,
Is this an age thing,or are we genuinely thick?

Err... um...
Is there a reset password option?
Is this an age thing,or are we genuinely thick?

If that's the question then you should ask for this to be moved to chatterbank.
Why put a password in a laptop ?
I have mine protected because I save my other passwords to it.
hi Jordy, it's probably an age thing that she forgot it. Paswords should not be able to be circumvented without difficulty, or it makes having a password useless!
Is it possible to start again, i.e. start with a new password?
Yes. Google gives plenty of places to describe it, but all seem rather a fuss. An opportunity for lessons to be learnt, no doubt.
Sorry, no help to jordyboy but my latest laptop doesn't have a password, it reads a fingerprint.
Try having a look here ..

.. next time she sets a password suggest she has a matching tatoo.
Question Author
Alavhalf, she is 80 years old 5ft nothing,if I was to do as you suggest regarding a tattoo, don’t think I would make it to July for my 83rd ,
But thanks for your input.
What does she think the password is, or has she genuinely not the slightest clue what it might have been? Does she use passwords for anything else?

Finally, are you absolutely certain she hasn't put the Caps Lock on?
Question Author
JimF,she hasn’t got a clue,
She is driving me daft with suggestions,
It could be this,or no it could be that,
It is not an age thing. You are not thick.

Mr BM changed the pw on his personal laptop and promptly forgot it.

He had to get one of the serious techies at the office to sort it for him. I would not have laughed so much were it not for the fact that he is a programmer and works in quite high level internet security.

Barmaid,I would have done the same and taken her laptop to one of the technicians in leith Walk in Edinburgh, there are a few of them, but no chance at the moment, cheers.
Is it a password to log in to windows?
Last time I had problems with my I pad, it had to go back to the Apple shop, they sorted it FOC, just had to go to local café for a couple of hours. (mind you it was an Apple software update that caused problem)

I have managed to find the password and now on my wifes laptop,
I googled but it was too complicated for me,
I thought i would have to wait till things got back to normal to get it fixed,I just spent some time trying different passwords ,feeling quite
chuffed with myself, whos a clever boy then,?but thanks again for those who tried to help.
