My wife has got a used car from a private individual.
Ownership was transferred online and we have no physical paperwork.
As far as I can tell there is no way I can tax it until I get the V5.
She already has access to the vehicle but does not need to drive it until next Wednesday.
Is she allowed to drive it?

Yes I have seen the website you need the V5C.
Yes there are reference numbers but no 12 digit ones.
There are options on the website to do it without the V5C, they've told you that won't come for a while. Use the link in the email.
It is very likely that if you don't manage to obtain tax the vehicle (strictly now called VED) that you will be pulled over by the police, who are enforcing the law apropos non-essential travel. I take it that the car has a current MOT and that your wife has taken out insurance for the vehicle (if she is using it for work to drive to and from clients homes, she will need business insurance). Whilst using or keeping a vehicle on the road without it being tax is illegal, she may find that the police are lenient. They are likely to do a moving vehicle check on any vehicles they stop.
Hey folks. Apologies for bumping the old thread. I'd like to know if I had to pay any taxes for shipping the car between states. Thanks.
