Has anyone here tried to make their own sanitiser yet?

I did today with a little bit of vodka and some Smiths Cremola hand gel, at first it looked like the vodka was separating but after a vigorous shake, it looks and smells fine

I don't think that will be effective, bobbi,as it must have 60% alcohol

I did it today as well. Had some surgical spirit in the cupboard and mixed it about 60/40 with aloe vera gel and a couple of drops of lime essential oil. Mine separated as well.

I could add some more but it would still only be the same wouldn’t it? I’m never sure if the 37% means proof ( Smirnoff)

Yes it would. You can`t really make it with booze due to the alcohol by by volume.

Bobbi...unfortunately, standard vodka is only 40% alcohol and mixing with other things means the concentration is much less, say 20%?
Sanitising gel needs to be at least 60% (preferably 70%) to be effective against the coronavirus.

...37% means 37% alcohol by volume...."degrees proof" is now unused as it didn't really much to many people.
(37% alcohol is about 75 degrees proof, btw)

Methanol is an excellent solvent for making you own sanitizer as it is usually around 95%ABV. Plus it's really cheap.

they ha hand sanitiser in my boot this morning - i was flabbergasted.
I guess if everyone is staying in there is much less need for sanitiser
